Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed his participation in a rally against the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) which could see him share the stage with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
That is, if his former boss confirms his attendance.
"Datuk Seri Anwar has expressed his willingness while Tun Dr Mahathir who has been a strong opponent of Malaysia signing the agreement has yet to give an affirmative answer,” said Badrul Hisham Shahrin or CheguBard, the founder of youth movement Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM), the rally organiser.
"We are still waiting for a response from him and are optimistic that he will consider attending the final rally."
The stage event will take place at Kelab Sultan Sulaiman, Kampung Baru, at 8.30pm on October 10.
SAMM and Solidariti Mahasiswa, in partnership with the Anti-TPPA Action Group, are organising the programme.
According to CheguBard, his camp has been working to get the two leaders on the same stage to help convince the government to reject the TPPA.
It will also be a good opportunity for Anwar and Dr Mahathir to answer questions on the agreement, and on any hidden agenda, CheguBard said in a statement today.
"SAMM is certain both leaders have their own influence and can stand together on the same stage to help realise the aspirations of the people for the future of the country," he said.
The TPPA is a free trade agreement currently being negotiated by nine countries – United States, Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
