Guan Eng: So police vehicles are on the seabed as well?

Apart from training his crosshairs on the missing guns, an opposition leader also shifts to sarcastic gear with regard to the lost police vehicles.

Referring to the federal police chief's statement that the missing police weapons could have fallen into the sea, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng wonders whether the police vehicles too met with a watery end.

"Have the 29 missing police vehicles also fallen into the sea?" Lim, who is also the PM for Bagan, asked in a statement.

NONEHe noted that Auditor-General Ambrin Buang (right) said there was no reply from the Home Ministry or police, but only an explanation from Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar.

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had earlier claimed that he had explained the matter to the Audit Department, but this was not included in the report.

The audit report revealed that the police had lost 44 firearms, 29 vehicles, 26 walkie-talkies, 22 radios and other equipment worth a total of RM1.3 million.

The public, Lim claimed, had more confidence that Ambrin was telling the truth while Zahid and Ahmad Shabery Cheek, another minister who landed in the limelight due to the audit report, were churning out lies.

In view of this, the DAP leader called on both Umno ministers to apologise.

NONETraining his guns on Shabery (left), Lim asked: "How can he openly lie that the private sectorsponsored the RM1.6 million paid by the Youth and Sports Ministry to bring three K-Pop groups for the World Youth Day celebrations here when Ambrin said the ministry officers did not challenge the fact that the money came from government allocations?"

Shabery, who was heading the Youth and Sports Ministry then, is now communications and multimedia minister.

The minister told Malaysiakini today that he would explain the matter to the Public Accounts Committee and was prepared to go live on television for this.

Lim also said that if Zahid and Shabery do not apologise, then Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should take action "if he wants to retain any remaining public trust that his ministers are honest, competent and professional."
