The bad news for Chua's faction: they are in control of less than half party central delegates as the resolution to censure Liow was rejected with 1,190 delegates voted against it while another 965 votes for it. The good news is, the target is very close.
The bad news for Liow's faction is: they are still unable to control more than half party central delegates as the resolution to overturn an earlier resolution of not accepting any Cabinet posts was rejected with 1090 delegates voted against it while 1080 voted for it. The good news is, the target is, too, very close.
The two factions have won and lost in the party's Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) with differences of less than 5% and no one has gained an absolute advantage. In other words, we can expect a fierce battle in December.
Just like weighting is required before a boxing match. The match will have to be canceled if any of the two boxers is underweight or the weight difference between the two boxers is too much, to avoid evolving into an overwhelming slaughter in the ring.
For instance, a boxer must first reach 200 pounds to participate in heavyweight boxing matches or even if he is as talented as Ip Man, he will never be allowed to be in the ring.
The recent party EGM was a weight test for party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and his deputy Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai. Both the boxers have now been confirmed to have reached 200 pounds and qualified to fight.
To make it clear, the EGM was all about showing their respective strengths.
Miscalculation by Chua faction
Did the rejection of the resolution to censure Liow a failure or miscalculation for Chua's faction?
Of course not. Basically, it was simply an absurd resolution. He did not seem to have committed exceptionally many mistakes or having an exceptionally bad image. He did not seem to have the courage to do bad things either. Alas, in the eyes of many, he was simply a Mr Nice guy.
As for the accusation of indecisive and weak character, oh! Come on! Which political party on earth would need to convene an EGM to censure the deputy president for being indecisive and having weak character?
They didn't expect Liow to take off his shirt and declare: "I'm not weak! I'm a true man!", did they?
Of course they didn't. They were not choosing a bandit head, after all.
The Chua faction understood that the resolution was absurd. However, since the main purpose was to test the water, it did not really matter whether it was absurd or not. In fact, the result of having 965 delegates voted to support the resolution has outlined the party's degree of absurdity.
Importantly, 45% among the central delegates had supported the resolution to censure Liow. They represented the iron votes of Chua that would never be affected by absurdity.
More rubbish on the way
Of course 45% is still less than half, but they need only another 6% or about 100 votes to survive the party election. Since they are now clear that all they need is another 6% of votes, what they need to do is just fight for it in the following two months, regardless of by forcing or cheating.
As for Liow's faction, the resolution to overturn an earlier resolution of not accepting any Cabinet posts was rejected either, adding another obstacle for Liow to join the Cabinet.
However, there is still hope to win over the president if they can gain more votes in the following two months, regardless of by begging or coaxing.
For anguished bystanders, oh! Please just stop pretending. If they are really so concerned about the party, the MCA would not have fallen to such a pathetic point today.
What's wrong with it since it is free? We can enjoy the exciting finale without going to Las Vegas or paying extra fees to pay-TV service providers. Since life is now miserable and going out costs much, it is better to stay at home and enjoy the fascinating MCA showdown for free.
