Kit Siang: PM should answer to House on audit report

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should answer to Parliament over the alleged misconduct and abuse of power highlighted in the Auditor-General's Report 2012, said DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.

This was in light of the announcement yesterday that the government has set up a special committee to study the report and take necessary action against errant public servants.

NONE"Najib should present a White Paper to the Dewan Rakyat when it reconvenes in on Oct 21 on the initial actions and decisions taken by the special committee set up to scrutinise the 2012 Auditor-General's Report," said Lim in a statement today.

The move, he said, is necessary to end the annual tale of horrors in the auditor-general's report about rampant corruption, wastage of public funds and abuses of power in the public service.

Lim further stressed that disciplinary actions must be taken against those who breach the government's orders and cause unacceptable losses of public funds.
Late timing

Lim expressed doubt about the capability of the special committee due to its late timing.

"...such a high-level government committee should have been formed immediately after the auditor-general Ambrin Buang had submitted the report to the government in July," said Lim.

dap special meeting 110313 lim kit siang 2Lim (right) pointed out that Najib and chief secretary Ali Hamsa were aware of the abuses as the report was presented to them two months before Parliament but had only waited until yesterday to act.

"Do the prime minister and the chief secretary want Malaysians to believe that both of them did not read or know of the 2012 Auditor-General's Report when they were first submitted to the government in July...and were not aware of the enormity of the corruption, wastage of public funds and abuses of power contained therein until they were tabled in Parliament on Tuesday and reported extensively in the media?" he said.

The special committee was announced yesterday and is chaired by Ali. It is made up of the Public Service Department director-general, the attorney-general, representatives from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Finance Ministry and police.
