SG LIMAU Former state executive councillor Amiruddin Hamzah has asked Umno for proof that there was an increased in entertainment outlets approved by PAS when it helmed the state government of Kedah in 2008.
Amiruddin (left) said the licences are approved by the district office and not the state executive council under the state government.“The district office have their own guidelines when approving such licences,” he told a press conference at the party’s operations room in Padang Lumat today.
“Why is Umno talking so much about it? They can cancel the licences to such outlets if they want since they have the power now. End of story,” added the Anak Bukit assemblyperson.
PAS and Umno are engaged in a tough battle for the Sg Limau state seat, which fell vacant on Sept 26 after the death of its assemblyperson and former Kedah menteri besar Azizan Abdul Razak.
PAS’ Mohd Azam Samat, 37, is facing BN’s Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim in a straight fight which will end on Nov 4, polling day.
Amiruddin was responding to Umno political speaker Suhaimi Shuib who said in Sedaka last night that there were 446 entertainment outlets currently operating, where 110 were approved under the PAS government of Kedah.
This was an increase of 110 outlets during PAS’ rule, after the party took over the state from BN in 2008.
“The outlet is huge and is located near Alor Mengkudu state assemblyperson Dr Ismail Salleh’s service centre.
“During the breaking of fast event (buka puasa), while the Muslims were praying, loud music could be heard from the outlet which happens to be a disco,” Suhaimi said at a small, targeted ceramah last night.
“I was told that there are pole dancers on some nights. The dancers are scantily dressed - with skirts and only sireh leaves on their tops,” he added, to laughter from the crowd.
“If PAS is so Islamic, why allow such activities to go on?”
