Batu Puteh 'lost' to S'pore to help Najib oust Badawi?Come clean on AG,spy claims - Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR - Anwar Ibrahim has accused the Najib administration of helping to cover up what would amount to high treason if Attorney General Gani Patail was probed and found guilty of having conspired towards Malaysia's loss of the Pulau Batu Puteh islet to neighboring Singapore.
"We lost an island but the attorney-general was never questioned. It was as if there was already an understanding (between the attorney-general and government) - or were they both afraid of something? I do not understand," Anwar said during the budget debate in Parliament on Monday.
"Why were they afraid to ask questions so that a proper explanation could be given by the attorney-general?"
Fabricated evidence so as to help S'pore win?
Gani had led the case for Malaysia before the International Court of Justice in 2008, when Najib was the Deputy Prime Minister and Abdullah Badawi the Prime Minister.
Singapore had won the case, and this outcome had contributed greatly to Badawi's unpopularity and eventual ouster by Najib, who took over as Malaysia's 6th prime minister in April 2009.
At that time, there was already speculation that the result was 'rigged' so as to drive the final nail into Badawi's political coffin, paving the way for Najib to take over as the No. 1 man in the country.
Such speculation gained weight based on recent information disclosed by former Kuala Lumpur CID chief Mat Zain Ibrahim, who made a statutory declaration alleging that Gani's team had submitted fabricated evidence to the ICJ.
This breach was discovered by the international court, damaging Malaysia's credibility and contributing to loss of ownership of the islet also known as Pedra Branca.
There has also been red-hot talk that former Johor Economic Planning Unit head Hamsan Saringat, who was part of the ICJ team, was recently stripped of his 'Datuk' title because of his involvement in the alleged conspiracy.
US agents involved in Batu Puteh decision or other matters?
Anwar also demanded that the Attorney-General Chambers responded to former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad's claim  that two American intelligence officers were working in their office.
The Opposition Leader flayed Prime Minister Najib Razak for continuing to ignore the matter.
"There needs to be a clear answer. If they are not CIA agents, then what are the roles of two US officers in the Attorney-General's Chambers," asked Anwar.
"This concerns espionage but our prime minister does not have the courage to reprimand the US' excesses. Why were they afraid to ask questions so that a proper explanation could be given by the Attorney-General?" Anwar asked.
