DAP sacks Sarawak assemblyperson

DAP has sacked its Pujut assemblyperson Fong Pau Teck for allegedly not making the compulsory monthly contribution that all its elected representatives must pay the party.

This was announced by disciplinary committee chairperson Tan Kok Wai in a statement today.

Pujut is a state constituency within the Miri parliamentary constituency.
According to Tan, the committee’s decision is based on the fact that Fong has displayed various acts of disobedience, hence breaching party discipline on many occasions.

“Fong’s refusal to pay the mandatory monthly contribution to the party as well as the arrears owing to the party as a result of the increment in the allowance of Sarawak state assemblypersons, constitutes an act of insubordination to a party directive.

“The disciplinary committee finds that Fong’s insubordination towards the party’s mandate has set a very bad precedent which is unpardonable.

“Therefore, the disciplinary committee has reached a unanimous decision to expel Fong,” he added.

Tan said that Fong has been directed to resign his position as the Pujut assemblyperson as per his mandatory undertaking pursuant to clause IV paragraph 12(c) of the party constitution.

However, he said, Fong has 14 days to appeal in writing against the party’s decision from the date of his expulsion letter, pursuant to clause VII paragraph 3 of the party constitution.
Malaysiakini has contacted Fong and he said that he does not wish to make a comment "at this moment".
