Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has vowed to defend the word 'Allah' in Maal Hijrah message uploaded on his official website yesterday.
"Appreciating the wider meaning of hijrah, we will uphold and defend the word 'Allah' for religion, race and the beloved country," he said.
Najib said that Malaysia holds the federal constitution and Islam as the national religion highly and will therefore safeguard the religion based on the meaning of Syariah and moderation.
Furthermore, the premier said that the meaning of Maal Hijrah was for Muslims to make a change and this was consistent with the country's transformation programme.
This change, he said, has been acknowledged even by the World Bank which now placed Malaysia at the 6th place for the ease of doing buiness compared to rank 12th last year.
"The drastic improvement proves the commitment and determination of the government to transform our country.
"It reflects the success of the hijrah agenda in this country," he said.
He added these successes further solidifies Malaysia as a model Islamic country.
