'Appoint Rosmah as special functions minister'

Unlike his predecessors, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has a unique problem - his wife consistently landing in the limelight for all the wrong reasons.

NONEIn a bid to deflect the criticism of Rosmah Mansor (right), Najib had revealed some of herunsung deedson Saturdaym during the Umno general assembly.

The Umno president told delegates that his wife had helped secure the release of a Malaysian student arrested by Egyptian authorities for being a suspected spy.

He also said Rosmah used her good ties with the Saudi royal family to ensure that Malaysian students fleeing the uprising in Egypt were allowed to enter the kingdom without a visa.

NONECommenting on this, veteran newsman A Kadir Jasin sarcastically suggested that Rosmah be made a minister.

“Najib should reconsider the position of Foreign Affairs Minister Anifah Aman (left)since it is evident that he is not as effective as Rosmah in resolving international crises.

“The same goes for International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul Karim and Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin since Rosmah is also involved in matters that should be handled by these ministers,” he added in his latest blog posting.

With this, Kadir said the government can save funds by dropping ministers who do not perform.
'Appoint her a senator'
The former New Straits Times editor-in-chief added that he has always campaigned for Rosmah to enter politics and be appointed a minister, or even prime minister if she has the people’s trust.

NONE“Although the general election is over, the PM and Rosmah’s supporters can still achieve this by appointing Rosmah as a senator, and subsequently a minister.

“With this, nobody can protest her interference or accuse her husband and the cabinet of abusing their powers to allow her to use government facilities,” he said.

According to Kadir (left), the best position for Rosmah would be that of special functions minister.
He also took a swipe at Federal Territories Umno delegate Affandi Zahari for suggesting, at the recent assembly, that all men, apart from Najib, do not love their wives.

“I vehemently oppose his accusation,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter if Affandi wanted to defend Najib and Rosmah.... But if it is true that he said that other men do not love their wives, that is a terrible insult,” he added.

Affandi had made the remark in defending Rosmah for using the government executive jet for her travels.

He claimed that Najib would be worried sick about the safety of his wife if she flew on a commercial airline.
