Zahid: I've evidence against 'Shiite' PAS No 2

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has insisted that authorities are in possession of evidence, including "pictures", proving that the “PAS number two” follows Shiite teachings.

“Why does he need to be afraid? If my officers show the evidence then what will he say? One of the characteristics of Shiites is that they are good at being fake,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who first made the accusation at the Umno general assembly last Saturday, said that Home Ministry officers will have a special press conference to detail the evidence soon.

He also added that the authorities must clamp down on Shiites in Malaysia as it causes cracks among Malaysian Muslims like in the Middle East where sectarian animosity is rife.
“Having Shiites here will break up Muslims in Malaysia, causing fissures like in Iraq where there are both Sunnis and Shiites. In Bahrain, too, they have Sunnis and Shiites.

“So I view this from a security perspective. I don’t want what is happening overseas in terms of the Muslim communities’ break-up to also happen in Malaysia...

Do you know what happened in Iraq? Civil war. What does it mean? We have to curb the problem now,” he said after the Home Ministry’s monthly gathering in Putrajaya.
Collaborating with religious enforcement officers
He said that similarly, stern action is also taken on other deviant groups who are out to mislead Muslims, like the Tuhan Harun cult.

The clampdown on the Tuhan Harun cult, he added, is an example of how the Home Ministry can collaborate with religious enforcement officers.

“Arrests will not be done by the Home Ministry but by the Islamic authorities, that is the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and state religious departments,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid’s accusation while winding up the Umno general assembly has prompted PAS to encourage Mohamad, who is better known as Mat Sabu, to take legal action.

In response, Mohamad stressed that he is a follower of the Sunni school of thought, and will consult his lawyers on further action.
