The nation still remembers how Opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim was portrayed in a video having sex with a China doll.
The video clip, supposedly from a spy camera hidden in a closet, hit the streets, but the entire plot fell apart and people knew straightaway it was another of Umno Baru’s fitnah against Anwar.
The latest plot is to try to weaken PAS’s deputy president, Mohammad Sabu, who is known to all fellow Malaysians as Mat Sabu. The biggest weakness in this entire plot is the challenge by a young ustaz (Islamic scholar)who is a religious officer with the Home Ministry by the name of Dr Zamihan Mat Zain Al Ghari.
In the latest report, Ustaz Zamihan has challenged Mat Sabu to deny the charges of being a Shiite. In a court of law, the onus is on the Home Ministry to prove beyond doubt that Mat Sabu is a Shiite. But as it is now, the evidences given are what Zamihan claims to be “Grade B” evidence.
As a non-Muslim reading about the so-called expose, it makes me wonder how our public funds are used by the government to go on a witch hunt. One’s faith is a personal matter but it looks like the Home Ministry is going on a witch hunt: Who is Shiite, who is not?
End of UMNO Baru’s political future
If this witch-hunting is allowed to dominate Malaysian politics, it will soon be the end of the UMNO-led Barisan Nasional.
UMNO, before it was declared illegal in the historic court decision of 1987, and its leaders such as Tun Abdul Rahman, and even Tun Hussein Onn would not have imagined UMNO would resort to all sort of fitnah in order to stay in power.
What's worse is the way how Islam is being portrayed by certain individuals who are using it for their own political expediency. When a minister gets excited over the expose even before the nation got to hear it from the Home Ministry’s secretary general, the motive has to be nothing but political.
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as Home Minister should be made responsible for his actions. His conclusion, even before the evidences were brought forward to the public, was, in my opinion, not only malicious but clearly a reflection of the political culture that is so synonymous to what UMNO Baru is what it is today.
It is obvious that while trying to play up the issue of Shiitism in this country, Zahid has forgotten the morality of making false allegations or "fitnah" as seen in the eyes of fellow Muslims as well as most of us who share a similar view. Would a Muslim fitnah his fellow brother when Allah is the Only Judge over all mankind? I wonder!
By quoting a blogger 'Duke of Umno', who claimed to have personally witnessed Mat Sabu performing his prayers using a flat stone, and using that as an evidence to prove that Mat Sabu is a Shiite, simply lacks credibility. This was based on hearsay, and the evidence has yet to be tried in a court. Why reveal only Grade B evidence, when there is solid evidence against Mat Sabu?
With such arrogance, even if Grade A+ evidence were presented to fellow Malaysians, most of us would view it with skepticism and Dr Zamihan should know it better that the sentiments of the people are no longer with UMNO.
I, therefore, urge the Home Ministry to immediately charge Mat Sabu and bring the evidences before a judge in court and see if the evidences hold water, instead of going on a smear campaign against the PAS Number Two. Or else, Mat Sabu should sue the Home Minister and the ministry for defamation and use the money that he wins to help the poor people in this country.
Otherwise, Mat Sabu does not even have to clear his name, because anyone hearing the evidences presented by the Home Ministry secretary-general, Abdul Rahim Mohamad Radzi would give the Home Ministry a score of 0 on a scale of 10. So much for the Grade B evidence!
Flimsy 'evidence' that shames the prestige of the Home Ministry
Allow me to just put this on record to rebut the Home Ministry's secretary-general for his so-called evidences that were presented.
We all know that Ayatollah Khomeini is a Shiite leader who led the Iranian Revolution, and brought the downfall of the Shah of Iran. Personally, I know nothing more than this, but for Abdul Rahim to accuse Mat Sabu as a Shiite in two of the ten evidences presented, makes me wonder if Abdul Rahim is worth his salt. When a person admires Khomeini's leadership, it does not necessarily mean that he has to be an ardent follower of Khomeini and his beliefs.
With the Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar joining the chorus, claiming that Shiites have militant tendencies, I have yet to hear Mat Sabu saying that Malaysians should take the arms to fight the government. In the past, the Malaysian Chinese community was being influenced by UMNO propaganda that PAS is “Taliban, militant and practices hudud”, today, we have very different views altogether, based on what happens in the political scene.
It is not only people like Saifuddin Abdullah or Zaid Ibrahim who stepped forward to defend Mat Sabu, but as a Malaysian Chinese, I too say it does not make sense for admiration of someone to be equated as being an ardent follower of the same.
In the same breath, I would easily dismiss the two other evidences that professing admiration for Shiite Lebanese leader, Hassan Nasrullah or even quoting Shiite ulamas as proof that Mat Sabu is a revolutionary Shiite.
I have listened to Mat Sabu's political ceramah in a few occasions, and if it is true that he were a Shiite, I would give a score of 9 on a scale of 10 for his brand of Shiitism. The issues that he brings up are more credible than the testimony by an NGO against him, what’s more an NGO which has been identified as belonging to the underworld.
Foolish arguments that give the Malays an image of stupidity
Recently, I visited Beijing and I am sure a group of UMNO youths had also visited the Forbidden City where a big portrait of Mao Tze Tung hangs above the entrance into the ancient city. I wonder if that makes us members of the prestigious Communist Party of China (in China, the ruling party is deemed as prestigious) and adherents of Maoism! This is a most ridiculous allegation which I believe would never have even crossed Mat Sabu's mind that he is a Shiite just because of some innocent words that he uttered or ridiculous allegations made by others.
In Malaysia Bolehland, it appears that what others say of you is more credible in the eyes of the Home Minister and his men, than the truth itself. The fact that it was a third party who called Mat Sabu a "Shiite icon" in an interview in news portal, Antara Pos, does not have any bearing on Mat Sabu's credibility as a Muslim or PAS's Number Two.
What’s more interesting is that the man himself is none other than the deputy president Jalur Tiga (Jati), Aidit Ghazali! Were we not told that Jalur Tiga is blacklisted by the Royal Malaysian Police as an underground society? Why does our Home Minister choose to believe in it more than anyone else? Does that have anything to do with his own confession that he is a member of Jalur Tiga, too?
Loss of respect for Islam due to Zahid & Zamihan's shenanigans
I wonder since when we have become so paranoid! When someone attends a class conducted by a Shiite ulama, or visiting a country one time too many, how can that be deemed as being involved in a certain line of teaching?
Although a non-Muslim, I have every reason to attend a class conducted by a Muslim just to understand what the religion teaches about fitnah, but that does not make me a Muslim? Attending a class on automobiles does not necessarily make me a mechanic, so attending a class on Islam would not make me a Muslim? The Home Minister should have more logics than this when he announced that Mat Sabu is a Shiite based on Grade B evidences that should not have been read out by Abdul Rahim.
Come on, Zahid and Zamihan, you should know better! Because of your actions against a fellow Muslim, most of us who are watching have lost our respect for your brand of Islam. I am sure Prophet Mohamad had taught Muslims to fear Allah, who is the One and Awesome Judge. Fitnah is forbidden by any yardstick.
Zahid is a politician but Home Ministry officials should NOT be
It is very unfortunate that such political drama should end up in such an anti-climax after people waited eagerly to hear what Abdul Rahim had to say, but there is a lesson to be learnt from this.
Ministers, before they are appointed to take on the cabinet positions, should pass the basic IQ tests to determine their suitability as policy decision makers. Or else, this country would just go down the drain because of such morally bankrupt and low IQ people who are leading the important ministries in the country.
The Home Ministry, in particular, should not be abused to the extent of going on a witch hunt at the whims and fancies of their political masters. Instead, they should go after the underworld bosses and help Bank Negara to curb the huge transfer of illicit funds out of the country.
Failure to live up to the expectations of the people would further erode public confidence of the political parties that they represent. No one else is to be blamed but these few clowns who are rocking the urbanites in our midst. - Malaysia Chronicle
