All Pakatan needs is ONE TERM & there'll be no floods in Pahang - Guan Eng slams 'CORRUPT' Umno
Pakatan Rakyat will be able to solve the flood woes of Pahang in just one term if it comes to power in the state and in Putrajaya, says DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
"We promise. If we win in Pahang and if we win in Putrajaya, give us one term and the floods in Pahang will be resolved," Lim said in his opening speech at the 17th Selangor DAP ordinary convention in Shah Alam this morning.
He pointed out that Pakatan had likewise solved the flood problems of Selangor after it came to power.
"It is only the water problem (in Selangor) that remains unresolved because Putrajaya is making it difficult for us. But if we come to federal power, then it will be resolved too," he said.
Lim attributed the floods to the ailing infrastructure in the country, as a result of corruption.
"We do not need to look far. How many times more must the ceiling of the Serdang Hospital collapse before action is taken against the contractor?
"People go to Serdang Hospital for treatment but may end up dead, being crushed by collapsing ceilings," he said.
Huge losses by dirty money outflow
Lim also cited the Washington-based Global Financial Integrity (GFI) report that showed Malaysia suffering RM1.2 trillion in illicit money outflow between 2002 and 2011.
"This huge loss of funds from dirty money is larger than Malaysia's gross domestic product this year or next year, or nearly RM4,300 per Malaysian over the last 10 years.
"If there are 10 members in your family, you would have lost RM43,000 in a year," he said.
"Malaysia’s exceptional performance as the world champion of corruption is justified by the RM173.84 billion (US$54.18 billion) in illicit funds outflow or dirty money having been siphoned out of Malaysia in 2011, ranking fourth worst in the world.
"For 2011, Malaysia is behind giants Russia (US$191.14 billion), China (US$151.35 billion) and India (US$84.93 billion)," Lim said, quoting the GFI report.
He also chastised Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low for downplaying the GFI report by claiming that only a small portion of the illicit outflow was due to corruption. - Mkini
