Rally a pretext to a bigger agenda, say cops
The anti-government rally which disrupted the New Year’s eve concert at Dataran Merdeka last night was merely a ploy engineered by certain quarters bent on a bigger agenda to cripple the country’s democratic system, said a senior police officer.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order director Salleh Mat Rashid said the rally was only the start of a bigger agenda as it was intended to cause unrest like what was happening in Thailand and Egypt.
“They tried to create distrust towards democracy in the country like what is happening in Thailand and Egypt after their defeat in the last general election,” he told Bernamaafter an interview withBernamaTV over 'Ruang Bicara’ programme last night.
“Actually, they are only a small group trying to ride on the wave of the New Year celebration to give an impression that the rally received a widespread support with the visuals downloaded onto social websites,” he said.
Salleh said they tried to provoke the police into arresting them so that the incidents could be used to show on the Internet on violence inflicted on them, but to their dismay, the police did not fall into their trap.
“They already have the plot and script written and just waiting for the necessary pictures and videos to complete the agenda,” he said.
He said police would not be a tool to their agenda and would only make arrests after gathering sufficient evidence.
