MAHB lays blame on AirAsia at PAC hearing

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has laid most of the blame for the massive cost overrun for the KLIA2 on AirAsia’s doorstep, the Public Accounts Committee says.

“MAHB said AirAsia was the main reason in terms of the upscaling, so now we want to ask AirAsia why (it) asked for a bigger airport, runway, etc.

“MAHB said it could have built it for RM2 billion but it would not be as big as it is now,” PAC chairperson Nur Jazlan Mohamed (left) told reporters today.

He said that AirAsia would testify before the PAC on April 28, so that the committee could present a balanced report on the ongoing KLIA2 debacle.

Nur Jazlan said that as far as MAHB was concerned, AirAsia would have to move to KLIA2 on May 9, when the LCCT would be closed.

“MAHB says it has received the certificate of compliance... We were also told by MAHB that the cracks (on the runway) can be rectified,” he said.
