Selangor Umno vows protests if rationing not lifted

Selangor Umno is threatening protests against the state government if it does not end the water rationing which is affecting most parts of the Klang Valley.

State Umno chief Noh Omar gave the Pakatan Rakyat-led Selangor government May 4 as the deadline.

“We will do demonstrations and road shows. We will go to the flats with NGOs and residents’ associations.

“This is not only Umno’s effort but all the rakyat must stand up and demand for their rights (for water), he told journalists in Shah Alam today.

Noh accused the state government of misleading the rakyat by insisting there was sufficient water when the BN first raised the prospect of a shortage if the Langat 2 water treatment plant was not built.

“Last time we said there will be no water but the Selangor Menteri Besar insisted there was enough.

“They brought the press to see rivers, sea, lakes, mines and even drains... to show that Langat 2 is not needed, but today it is proven that they have been lying to the rakyat,” he said sarcastically.

Noh also hit out at the Selangor government for being adamant on not immediately approving the Langat 2 project despite the ongoing water crisis.

He described the state government as “arrogant” for refusing to buy water from Negri Sembilan as an interim measure.

“What is the state government doing? They can’t possibly just do nothing. They must find ways to resolve the problem and they must be responsible for their mistakes,” he said.
