The father of a bride whose Hindu wedding was disrupted by Islamic religious authorities has insisted that his daughter is a Muslim and remain one.
Abdul Majeed Gulam Kader, a Muslim, claimed his daugher, Zarina, 32 ,was born to Muslim parents as his wife Vasantha was also a Muslim convert, according to The Star.
"They were born to Muslim parents and that makes them Muslim too," he was quoted as saying in reference to Zarina and her siblings Shahull Sallah, 30 ,Zaleha, 28 and Abdul Gulam, 24.
Abdul Majeed, 54 claimed his wife's Muslim name is Zainab and will never let any of his children abandon Islam.
This contradicts Zarina's claim that her father had registered her as a Muslim without the family's knowledge.
Zarina had said she was raised by her mother, who is claimed is Hindu, and has therefore been a practising Hindu all her life because her father abandoned the family.
Abdul Majeed, a security guard, denied he had abandoned the family, instead claiming that he was thrown out of the family's Petaling Jaya home in 2000 after he reprimanded his younger daughter for coming home late.
He claimed to be homeless since then and lives at his work place.
He claimed Zarina had met him two months ago to sign certain documents but he refused.
The daily also reported Abdul Majeed's stepmother Fatimah Abdullah as saying that the former often quarrelled with his wife who took their children to temples.
