The entry into Europe by right wing Malay NGO Perkasa shows that its call to thump rogue elements challenging Malaysia's "social contract" is correct and it is garnering growing Malay support, Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali said.
Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia today quotes Ibrahim as saying in London that Perkasa now has more than 500,000 members and is the only Malay rights NGO that is able to expand overseas.
Ibrahim is reported to have said this at the launch of Perkasa UK&Europe in the British capital yesterday, which took off with 150 members, including some from Belgium, France and Germany.
The movement there is called ‘Malaysian Indigenous People’s Movement’.
"Perkasa got its wisdom from Malaysia's past independence fighters who established a party to rule based on principles of shared power. This is the main factor that guaranteed peace, prosperity and continuity of the nation.
"But don't let there be any party that is out to hurt and belittle the indigenous people. The dependency between indigenous and non-indigenous people must never be broken or betrayed," Ibrahim is quoted as saying.
Perkasa calls itself an "indigenous" movement in London, even though the NGO is only known for standing up for Malay rights in Malaysia.
Ibrahim said he was disappointed that “a splinter group of Malays” have forgotten history and absorbed misguided liberal philosophy.
"It is because of this historical blindness that Perkasa exists on this good earth... otherwise, surely more people will be asking for equal rights, without considering the rights of the indigenous people," he added.
Ibrahim affirmed that Perkasa would stay loyal to the government as long as it upholds the Federal Constitution and improves the economic situation of the Malays and bumiputera.
Perkasa was set up about five years ago and has attracted controversy, even from some BN component parties that reject some of its more extreme statements.
