Langkawi MP in another FB blunder on Yammy

Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad is embroiled in a fresh social media controversy after circulating a post on Facebook that made unflattering accusations against Yammy Samat, the mother of DAP's Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud.

This comes less than two months after he sang praises on the death of DAP chairperson Karpal Singh on Facebook in April – and subsequently apologised for his action.

In defence of his latest Facebook posting, Nawawi (left) claimed his Facebook account was hacked.

"From May 26 to June 2, I was in China, I did not access Facebook and when I returned... I was shocked because even my profile picture was changed.

"Before this I only used my own photograph as a profile picture but it has suddenly been changed to that of a buffalo.

"I do not know whose work this is... previously I had already changed my password and no one knows my Facebook password," Nawawi is quoted as saying in a Sinar Harian report today.

The posting accuses Yammy, who is a veteran Umno member, of having received various patronages, such as taxi permits, rice import permits, logging concessions, property and land leases.

It also said her children received various education scholarships, including from Yayasan Menteri Besar Perak, from primary school until university level.

'Legal action mooted'

A Facebook account under the name "Yammy Samat" rebutted the allegations.

"Backfire, my children are all grown up and the youngest is 21 years old.

"Yayasan Menteri Besar Perak was only founded when Zambry Abdul Kadir became menteri besar. It has only existed for a few years.

"If you wan to defame at least do some study, see you in court, Langkawi MP," the posting says.

It is not clear whether this Facebook account belongs to Yammy but she was quoted bySinar Harian yesterday as denying the allegations made by Nawawi and vowed to take legal action.

Yammy came under the spotlight after she accompanied her daughter Dyana, who was DAP's candidate in the Teluk Intan by-election, in her campaign rounds.

Yesterday, Umno issued a show-cause letter to Yammy for her role in the DAP election campaign.

Dyana was narrowly defeated, on a 238-vote majority, by Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong in the May 31 by-election.
