Suspended PKR member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as 'Chegubard', has filed a written complaint with the party over alleged bribery involving top leaders and the party's election appeal board.
In a letter dated today and sighted by Malaysiakini, Badrul Hisham pointed to the accusation that went viral on the internet for the past two weeks.
It was alleged that party election appeal board chairperson Abd Malek Hussin (left) had rejected a bribe by Kota Raja division chief Dr Xavier Jayakumar and his "boss".
Badrul Hisham also stated that based on the rumours, the "boss" could be deputy president Azmin Ali, who is defending his post against Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim and current secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution.
Describing the rumours as "embarrassing", he urged PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and PKR disciplinary board chairperson Dr Tan Kee Kwong to investigate the matter.
In the letter, Badrul Hisham said the rumours claimed that Abd Malek threw "an undisclosed amount of money" at Jayakumar (right) and said, "Give this money back to your boss".
When contacted, Badrul Hisham, who has been suspended for publicly alleging that the party's elections are dirty and not transparent, said it was important for those involved to clear the air.
However, party sources said Abd Malek "threw the money" in the presence of Wan Azizah and de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim during a PKR political bureau meeting held two weeks ago.
When contacted, Abd Malek had refused to comment whileMalaysiakini is still waiting for Jayakumar's reply.
Azmin could not be reached for comment.
A contact in Azmin's office told Malaysiakini that the Gombak MP could not be reached for the moment as he was overseas. He added the complaints were “totally nonsense,” and requested the media to question Xavier instead.
The PKR elections have been marred by irregularities, resulting in 17 divisions going back to polls after complaints were lodged due to “problems in the voting process”.
