This is because a PAS menteri besar is unlikely to be accepted by the party's allies PKR and DAP.
"If DAP and PKR do not agree with the choice for menteri besar it will be a temporary state government," Mohamad told reporters along the sidelines of the party's 60th assembly today.
He was commenting on news that the swearing-in ceremony of the new MB would be held at the Istana Alam Shah this Tuesday.
Mohamad’s opinion was echoed by the party’s secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali.
“The decision was made that the post is to be filled by PKR,” Mustafa told reporters.
It was reported that the Sultan of Selangor has decided on the next MB to replace Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim who was expelled from PKR last month.
The swearing-in of the new MB is expected to take place on Tuesday at the Istana Alam Shah in Klang.
This was confirmed by the Selangor Palace, but it did not reveal who the new MB would be.
Mohamad and several other PAS central committee leaders had previously stated that the party would not nominate anyone from PAS for the post.
The DAP and PKR nominated PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. However, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang reportedly nominated three other Selangor lawmakers for the post of MB without consulting the central committee.
One of those said to be nominated is Selangor PAS chief Iskandar Abdul Samad.
However, only Dr Wan Azizah has the official backing of 30 lawmakers in the Selangor assembly for the MB post.
