‘Chauvinist’ Hadi betrayed Pakatan’s trust, says PKR Wanita

Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has betrayed Pakatan Rakyat's (PR) trust and is a chauvinist over his flip-flop decisions in the Selangor menteri besar (MB) impasse, said PKR Wanita information chief Azura Aziz.
She added that the PAS president was "utterly disappointing" as he had deceived his party members and allies over the replacement for Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
"The trust has been broken. As a leader who had given his word, we expected him to honour it," said Azura in a statement last night.
On Friday, Hadi told a special briefing for PAS that he had used the discretion accorded to him by the party’s constitution to submit to the palace the names of two PKR and one Selangor PAS assemblyman as candidates for the MB position.
The nominations were apparently done without the knowledge of the party’s central committee, which had decided on August 17 that PAS would not stake a claim on the MB post.
Hadi's move was also done in defiance of the PR presidential council's decision on August 17 to nominate only Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the post.
Hadi had said the party's decision to reject Dr Wan Azizah as the next Selangor MB had nothing to do with her gender, but her capability as a leader.
He had said that she was not qualified to become MB as she did not have the ability to debate questions in Parliament nor the state assembly.
"Hadi is just being a chauvinist for saying that the president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat is unqualified to be the MB of Selangor. Who is he to say that Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah is incapable?" asked Azura last night.
"In terms of experience, credential and qualifications she has what any right-thinking person would consider as qualified."
Azura said Dr Wan Azizah graduated as an ophthalmologist from the Royal College of Surgeons and was a top student, as well as awarded a gold medal in obstetrics and gynaecology.
She added that the PKR president had founded the Reformasi movement and a non-governmental organisation called Adil before becoming the president of Parti Keadilan National in 1999.
Dr Wan Azizah also became MP for Permatang Pauh and was now the Kajang assemblyman, said Azura.
"Not only has Hadi betrayed the trust of the Pakatan Rakyat allies, but he has even tried to justify his nomination of three names from PAS instead (of) what has been agreed upon during the Pakatan Rakyat meeting.
"The flip-flop stance of PAS cannot be tolerated. This is not in line with the spirit of being a coalition partner.
"If PAS cannot toe the line of the coalition, he should use the same advice he gave his own party members which is to leave the party if they are dissatisfied," said Azura.
Hadi had on Friday reiterated that PAS was still part of PR, and added that those who wanted to start a new party were welcome to leave.
In a separate statement, PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad urged Hadi to respect the PAS leadership's decision on the MB nominees and withdraw his statement that Dr Wan Azizah was not qualified.
"The statement is very inappropriate in light of the PR collaboration, especially coming from one component party's president to another," he said last night.
He added that Hadi's comments that Dr Wan Azizah was not qualified to be the Selangor MB were unsuitable as the PKR president's candidacy had been agreed on during both the PAS central committee and PR presidential council meetings on August 17.
