Warak qualified Minister Abdul Wahid Omar is facing some flak over his statement that the average household income is now RM5,900 (per month !!). This is what Wahid said :
- RM5,900 mean, not median household income, minister explains
- minister explained RM5,900 average monthly household income mean figure
- significant increase from RM5,000 monthly average recorded in the 2012 HIS.
- picture of increased prosperity among Malaysians
- Wahid said median household income 2014 is RM4,258 & RM3,626 in 2012.
- 7mil households - 3.5mil earn above RM4,700 while 3.5mil earn below RM4,700
So there are three different things here :
1. mean household income (aka average monthly household income) is RM5,900
2. median household income is RM4,258
3. 3.5mil households earn above RM4,700 & another 3.5mil households below RM4,700
Whatever he meant, it does NOT reflect the real situation on the ground. RM5,900 average (mean) household income is a fallacy.
Can someone do another survey on monthly household incomes separately for Chinese, Indian Tamils, Ceylon Tamils, Punjabi Sikhs, urban Malays, rural Malays, Sarawak bumiputras, Sabah bumiputras, Sibu Chinese and such. You may get a better picture.
Among Malays please also do a survey among Civil Servant Malays, "working for GLC" Malays and "working for Petronas" Malays.
The same dunggus who have been messing up the country for the past 11 years put the GLCs on a "high income" trajectory. So a GLC receptionist can earn RM3000 per month. This was a "feel good" trap for the GLC masses so that they could sapu big time behind closed doors.
As long as Petronas keeps pumping oil and paying RM60bil to RM80bil a year into the gomen's coffers this type of crap can continue.
But it does not reflect the real situation on the ground.
"3.5mil households earn above RM4,700 & another 3.5mil households below RM4,700" could be closer to the truth.
The 3.5mil below RM4,700 could be Malays and bumiputras.
The 3.5mil above RM4,700 could be non Malays, largely Chinese. If the mean household income is so high then please explain why household debt is also so high? And the highest household debt is among Malays. It just does not make sense.
