PUTRAJAYA TARGETING ZUNAR AGAIN - WHY? Cartoonist being probed for sedition, webmaster hauled up

PUTRAJAYA TARGETING ZUNAR AGAIN - WHY? Cartoonist being probed for sedition, webmaster hauled up
Police have launched a sedition investigation against political cartoonist Zulkiflee Anuar Ulhaque.
According to lawyer Latheefa Koya, he is investigated under Section 4 of the Sedition Act.
Police, however, did not specify why Zulkiflee, who is better known as Zunar, is being investigated.
Latheefa said police informed her of this today.
She told Malaysiakini after the websmaster for the cartoonist's official website zunar.my was called up for questioning.
The webmaster, who declined to be identified, was instructed to give a statement at the Dang Wangi police station at 2pm tomorrow.
Police also called up Zunar for questioning but a date for this has not been set.
This comes after three were arrested last week for selling Zunar's books at the Palace of Justice, following PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial.
The trio were selling the books 'Pirates of the Carry-BN' and 'Komplot Memenjarakan Anwar' (The Complot to Jail Anwar).
They are investigated under the Printing Presses and Publications Act, Sedition Act and the Penal Code.
When contacted, Zunar said he believes the sedition probe could be related to the latter book as 'Pirates of the Carry-BN' has long been in the market.
Worse than banning
"Both the books are not banned but by harrassing booksellers, it is even worse than banning," he said.
Neither of the book are banned, but the action on book sellers is "worse than a ban", he said.
"But the strange thing is, this is after the court lifted the ban on the (other Zunar) books, which shows they have no respect for the courts."
He said zunar.my sells all his books, including Pirates of the Carry BN and Komplot Memenjarakan Anwar (The Complot to Jail Anwar).
Yesterday, the Home Ministry appealed against the Court of Appeal's decision to lift the ban on two of Zunar's books, which lapsed on Sunday.
The books are 'Perak Darul Kartun' and '1 Funny Malaysia'.
A three-member bench at the Court of Appeal headed by Justice Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof had unanimously lifted the Home Ministry's ban on the two books, imposed by then minister Hishammuddin Hussein.
The other judges were Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Justice Varghese George Varghese. -M'kini
