35 critical patients from Kelantan hospitals transferred

Health ministry also holds emergency meeting to discuss power supply via generators, clean water, food and manpower assistance.
bajir kelantanPUTRAJAYA: Critical patients in hospitals affected by the floods in Kelantan have been transferred to the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM)in Kubang to continue with their treatment.
Health Minister S Subramaniam said so far, 35 patients from Kuala Krai Hospital had been transferred to HUSM.
Three more patients from the Kuala Krai Hospital and two each from the Tumpat Hospital and Pasir Mas Hospital are scheduled to be transferred today, he told a media conference after chairing an emergency meeting of the ministry here today.
He said the patients would be transferred using a helicopter from either the Royal Malaysian Police or the Malaysian Armed Forces, and if needed, the ministry would rent a helicopter for the purpose.
Besides the Kuala Krai, Tumpat and Pasir Mas hospitals, he said, other hospitals which could not function at their optimum were the Gua Musang and Tanah Merah hospitals.
He said the meeting also discussed supply of electricity using generators, clean water and food supply, as well as manpower assistance from other states.
“Through a cooperation with Puncak Niaga, effort is being made to carry out water filtration at the affected hospitals.
“We will also assist in terms of food supply and this morning, the ministry has sent 300kg of food to Kuala Krai Hospital,” he added.
On medical personnel, Subramaniam said 72 nurses from Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital were sent to HUSM following the increase in the number of patients there.
He said 200 more hospital staff from other states would be sent to hospital in Kelantan to assist their colleagues there.
