Water levels at danger mark in Johor rivers

Little change elsewhere, flood waters subside in Kelantan capital.
bah030KUALA LUMPUR: More flood victims were recorded in Kelantan, at 93,407 this morning from over 80,000 yesterday with about half of them in Kota Baru district, which recorded the highest number of flood victims at 42,469 people from 9,663 families. They are housed at 62 relief centres.
The flood waters have subsided a little in Kota Baharu but the weather is cloudy.
Tumpat district has also been badly hit by floods, with 21,396 victims housed at 31 relief centres, followed by Gua Musang (7,529/24) and Pasir Mas (6,319/25).
There was little change in Terengganu, Pahang and Perak.
PAHANG: the number of flood victims dropped slightly to 33,601 at 8am today from 33,643 in nine districts last night. The breakdown by towns: Kuantan(8,474), Maran (3,693), Jerantut (6,657), Raub (221), Lipis (2,647), Rompin (13), Pekan (3,928), Temerloh (6,965) and Bera (1,003).
TERENGGANU: the number dropped to 33,990 this morning from 34,709 last night. Affected areas included Kuala Terengganu, Hulu Terengganu and Besut.
JOHOR: 475 flood victims from 119 families were still housed at nine relief centres this morning. Four relief centres had been opened in Kluang, two in Batu Pahat and one each in Muar, Segamat and Kota Tinggi.
Jalan Bukit Tempurung in Segamat is reportedly still cut off this morning, while the water level in two rivers, Sungai Sembrong at Batu 2, Kluang and Sungai Ladang Chaah in Segamat, have reached the danger levels.
PERAK: the number of flood evacuees in Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Central Perak and Kerian rose to 7,513 (1,968 families) this morning from 7,010 last night.
They were all housed at 56 relief centres – 25 in Kuala Kangsar, Central Perak (19), Hulu Perak (11) and Kerian (one).
In Central Perak, the number of flood victims increased to 3,808 (1,027 families) from 3,479 (971 families) last night. In Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Siput, there were 2,778 (697 families), 722 (183 families) in Hulu Perak and 205 (61 families) in Kerian at the relief centres this morning.
PERLIS: only 34 flood victims from 10 families remained at the relief centres at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abi, Kangar as at 9am today.
