BIGGEST JOKE, AG SHOULD REPRIMAND YOU SHAFEE! Umno lawyer wants AG to punish Anwar for insulting courts
KUALA LUMPUR - Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah has again urged the Attorney-General and other lawyers present during Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy conviction to take action against the latter for insulting the judiciary.
Shafee, who acted as lead prosecutor in Anwar’s sodomy case, added that regardless of a person’s political affiliations, charges should be brought up against anyone who speaks ill of a court’s judgement.
“I agree, we must regularly, regardless if someone supports Barisan Nasional or the opposition, if he insults the court we must take action, must be seen as not siding with anyone,” he said during an interview with local daily Sinar Harian.
Following Anwar’s conviction last week for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, the former issued a statement saying that the charges were trumped up and the judgement was a “political conspiracy.”
“This is complete fabrication, coming from a political conspiracy to stop my political career. You have not given proper consideration to the case presented by my counsel from day one, that this incident never happened at all,” Anwar said in the statement before his conviction on February 10.
Shafee added that the judiciary cannot take action in order to maintain the perception of impartiality, and as such other lawyers or the AG should be the ones to take responsibility.

“Perception is very important, so sometimes judges also don’t want to take action. So outsiders must take action like the Attorney-General or lawyers present in court that saw the incident,” he said.
Shafee has been making headlines for attacking the latter despite his limited role as a public prosecutor-by-fiat for the case.
He has been giving interviews to local dailies insisting that there was no conspiracy behind the case and slammed Anwar’s supporters for perpetuating what he claimed was a ploy to gain sympathy.
The prosecutor also ridiculed Anwar’s family for calling Anwar’s jailing as a sacrifice, claiming a real sacrifice would have required him to plead guilty from the start. - Malay Mail
