Palanivel should not have SNUBBED Najib: Umno now throws support behind Subra
KUALA LUMPUR - Cheras Umno division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee has slammed MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel for his no-show at a scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and MIC deputy president Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam this week.
He said the crisis within MIC was a Barisan Nasional problem (BN) as well, and all quarters had the best interest of the party in mind when they met to resolve MIC’s issues.
“As number one in MIC, Palanivel should show a good example to other MIC members. His move to send a representative to the meeting was as though he didn’t respect the decision of the Prime Minister.
“The reason the Prime Minister called for the meeting with Palanivel and Subramaniam surely had good intentions,” Syed Ali said in a blog post today.
He said Najib did not want to prolong MIC’s leadership crisis as it would have a harmful effect on the Indian community apart from the BN.
“This internal MIC crisis should not be left to fester too long and both the president and deputy president of MIC must give their full commitment to attend the meeting.
“To me, the internal crisis can be detrimental to BN if it is not handled appropriately,” he said, adding that he supported the move for the setting up of a Special Secretariat to help MIC resolve the crisis.
In the meeting that took place on Feb 16, it was learnt that Palanivel did not show up.
After the meeting, Subramaniam announced that he agreed to the secretariat being set up to resolve the party’s issues, a proposal that was announced by BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
However, on the same day, Palanivel instructed his lawyers to file court papers against the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
“Though I had given a deadline of Tuesday, Feb 17, 2015 for RoS to withdraw all its directives, the announcement made by BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today makes it unnecessary to wait until then,” he said in a statement. - http://www.therakyatpost.com/
