Police dismiss criticism they were delaying the case because the suspect is related to a VIP in Sarawak.
MIRI: Police here have denied dilly-dallying the investigation into the assault on a French woman by a female road bully.
District deputy police chief Supt Stanley Johnathan Ringgit said police could not complete the investigation because they had not been able to record the suspect’s statement as she was not in the country.
He said police had immediately carried out an investigation after receiving the victim’s report on Sunday.
The victim aged 44, is currently residing here with her French husband, a pilot.
Stanley dismissed criticism police were intentionally delaying the case because the suspect was related to a VIP in Sarawak.
“The police are waiting for the suspect to return here for questioning. Rest assured, we will conduct the investigation fairly.
“We will not look at the background of the individual,” he told reporters after a parade held in conjunction with the 208th Police Day anniversary here today.
A video clip of the incident which happened at Jalan Krokop 10 here at 11am on March 22, was circulated via social media and went viral.
