IMMIGRATION'S INTEGRITY SUSPECT: Revoke social passes of all Pakistanis in Sabah immediately - Kitingan

IMMIGRATION'S INTEGRITY SUSPECT: Revoke social passes of all Pakistanis in Sabah immediately - Kitingan
KOTA KINABALU - The Sabah government should recall and revoke social visit passes issued to all Pakistanis with “immediate effect”, says an Opposition leader.
This was in response to five Pakistanis sent to prison last week after admitting to possession of fake social passes. They were among nine arrested in Semporna.
Also arrested were eight Immigration Department personnel.
In calling for the state government to “act unflinchingly and uncompromisingly” on the matter, State Reform Party Sabah (Star Sabah) chief Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan also called on the Technical Committee on Foreign Migrant Management to investigate the matter.
Jeffrey, in a statement, said that the committee — chaired by his elder brother, former Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan — should not rely on the Immigration Department as its integrity was “suspect”.
“It is questionable whether they will punish the crooks within.
“I believe the issue is not just punishing the Pakistanis and the culprits involved, but to go after the syndicates, links and putting in systems that will prevent future recurrences.
“That duty must fall on the Sabah government.”
Jeffrey went on to claim that there were countless complaints of Pakistanis operating retail outlets, including in remote interior villages.

He said it was now appropriate to “swoop on all Pakistanis in Sabah” and verify the authenticity of their passes.
Three-month jail sentences, Jeffrey added, were inadequate for the seriousness of the damage and the security threats to Sabah and Sabahans.
“I truly believe that there is no reason to grant special privileges to Pakistanis with extended social passes when visitors from Asean nations are only allowed 30 days in Sabah and West Malaysians 90 days.” - http://www.therakyatpost.com/
