PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli is reported to be in poor health and will be taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital later tonight.
Rafizi’s lawyer Melissa Sasidaran told The Malaysian Insider that they had to ask the police many times before they agreed to allow the sick Rafizi to be sent to hospital.
She revealed that Rafizi would spend the night at the Jinjang police detention centre tonight, before being brought before a magistrate for a remand hearing tomorrow.
Rafizi was arrested earlier this afternoon under the Sedition Act for a statement released yesterday calling PKR leaders to mobilise its members for the #KitaLawan rally in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.
In the statement, Rafizi said: “PKR hopes that all Malaysians who love Malaysia would turn up to speak out for our rights and oppose the federal government’s wicked ways.
“We also hope the authorities do not try to infringe our rights to assemble peacefully.”
Following Rafizi’s arrest, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar, questioned whether Rafizi had planned to break opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim out of prison, reported The Malaysian Insider.
“Rafizi asked his supporters to come out in full force tomorrow to release Anwar.
“This kind of open letter has many meanings. Is he asking people to break Anwar out of prison?” suggested Khalid, adding that the letter could be misinterpreted by those who did not understand his motives.
According to Malaysiakini, Khalid said the police wanted to clarify with Rafizi regarding the reactions of his supporters towards his call to release Anwar.
The news portal quoted him as saying, “This is dangerous, the police would not allow such calls to be made. Any kind of directive which can cause chaos, would only lead us to take action.”
