Rewcastle told news portal Malaysiakini in an email interview that she had taken about two years to scrutinise the documents with other journalists before releasing a series of exposés on the company and the controversial tycoon better known as Jho Low, over the past few weeks.
She said the documents had not been obtained illegally, but refused to divulge her sources.
"In fact, I had neither forged nor hacked to get this material, but I thank PetroSaudi for at least acknowledging the authenticity of the documents I have published. It is indeed a genuine email," Rewcastle was quoted by Malaysiakini as saying.
On the police report said to have been lodged by PetroSaudi International against the website, Rewcastle said: "They can't have it both ways, can they?”
PetroSaudi and 1MDB had signed a joint venture in September 2009 that saw 1MDB invest US$1billion (RM3.63 billion) while PetroSaudi injected US$1.5 billion in assets.
