The government spent RM28 million to upgrade the cabin of a new private jet which was purchased allegedly for the exclusive use of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, PKR secretary general Rafizi Ramli said today.
He added the cost of the upgrading works was included in the hire-purchase price, which Rafizi previously claimed was RM465 million.
Rafizi said that the jet, an ACJ320, already had a good looking and comfortable cabin, and questioned the need to spend RM28 million to merely upgrade what was already "like a hotel lobby".
"We want to know what exactly the RM28 million was used for," he said.
Rafizi also revealed that the jet was previously owned by Air Luther AG, with Comlux Aviation managing the jet for leasing purposes.
Jet Premier One Malaysia then purchased the jet before selling it to the Malaysian government, he added. The plane has been in operation since 2011.
Rafizi also said that the upgrading of the cabin does not fit in with the excuses made by Umno leaders that the jet was brought for the safety of the leaders.
“What is the excuse of spending RM28 million for a cabin upgrade?” Rafizi asked.
He said that if the money was used to build houses for those who were displaced by the Kelantan floods, the government could have built homes for 800 families. - M'kini
