Attorney-General must tell the public or expect grilling in Dewan Rakyat
KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General has been warned he faces being pilloried in Parliament if he continues to remain silent about recent scandals involving 1Malaysia Development Bhd and lately Tabung Haji.
Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo said the Attorney-General must reveal what action he has taken or intends to take about 1MDB, and if there is now a need to track the movement of funds in the debt-ridden government company, pending investigations by the Auditor General.
He said the Attorney-General, Gani Patail, “cannot remain silent, almost as if he does not exist” while 1MDB undertakes further deals such as the much-criticised sale of land to Tabung Haji.
As police reports had been lodged against 1MDB, Gobind suggested that Gani take a personal interest in all dealings of 1MDB, and subject future transactions to detailed scrutiny.
He also asked to know the state of investigations into a police report lodged last month by Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua.
Gobind said he believed the Attorney-General was bound by law to publicly respond to the queries posed, otherwise he could expect serious criticism when the Dewan Rakyat resumes .
