YOURSAY ‘Nobody is forcing Tabung Haji to re-sell the land to non-Muslims.’
TH to sell land from 1MDB on PM's advice
Swipenter: "I wanted to say that after this, please don’t accuse Tabung Haji of selling the land to the non-Muslims," said Tabung Haji chairperson Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.
Does this sound familiar? In the 1980s, during the intense internal power struggle to control Umno, the eventual winner won by making the Chinese the scapegoats and called for Malay unity. On cue, the Malays rallied around him.
In the 1990s, with Anwar Ibrahim's reformasi at its heights, this man did the same after winning the general election, ironically with the support of the Chinese.
He accused the Suqiu movement of being communist sympathisers, and with the connivance of MCA, called for Malay unity once again.
The present-day power struggle in Umno may see a repeat of the same tactic by Umno warlords.
Already there were attempts to shift the blame to one chubby Chinaman for the woes of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) by certain quarters in Umno.
Voice: Abdul Azeez, nobody is forcing Tabung Haji to re-sell the land to non-Muslims. So, if Tabung Haji agree to re-sell the land to non-Muslims, please don't make an issue out of it.
I hope they re-sell the land to Muslims to avoid any attempt to blame non-Muslims. But it is interesting to see who the eventual buyer will be for such a high price.
KSD: As long as another government-linked entity is not buying the land, it's fine. Otherwise, it still involved the people's money. Crony companies are also in this category because they would be repaid with fat government contracts on very good terms.
Vgeorgemy: This is the best way to increase the value of the land exponentially and sell the land allocated for bumiputera entrepreneurs outside its intended purpose. Very brilliant strategy.
Once the land is gone, Umno is able to attack the Chinese for grabbing the land intended for the bumiputera business community.
Vijay47: These two monumental clowns - Abdul Azeez and PM Najib Razak - don't even seem to realise what they have done.
They have proven what the opposition and other concerned citizens have been saying all along, that Umno members in powerful places have been using public funds in a most cavalier, irresponsible way.
Without our even considering the veracity of the sale, of a willing-buyer willing-seller fair price transaction, Abdul Azeez, in selling the property just a few days after buying it, you have only made things worse for yourselves.
You have shown that major commercial decisions are seriously coloured by non-relevant sentiments and interests. From the very start, almost everything that these officials had denied about 1MDB was ultimately proven to be correct.
It is an especially potent chalice of hemlock you hold to your lips, Azeez, the least you can do if you had any honour at all is to sip of it. After you have resigned from all posts.
Anonymous_1391693662: Based on reports as of Friday, the transaction was not concluded yet. Why not just stop the deal and therefore there is no necessity to sell this plot of land?
FellowMalaysian: The buying and selling of 1MDB land by Tabung Haji within days of its acquisition is truly making a mockery out of the top echelons in the pilgrim fund.
There is sheer disregard as to whether the foolishness of their action would affect the credibility and soundness of the investment fund. Their actions did not seem to stem from shrewd business sense.
Instead, the buying and selling of this plot of land costing its contributors RM188 million could only be made through one singular reason - sheer political expediency.
The four clowns, Abdul Azeez, Ismee Ismail, Johan Abdullah and Abdul Samad Alias must do the honourable thing now by relieving themselves and resigning from all posts they have assumed in Tabung Haji before its members resort to further stark and graphic actions that may bring Tabung Haji into even worse disrepute.
Hermit: Ismee Ismail, by virtue of being CEO of Tabung Haji and paid in salary and perks running into millions of ringgit, you are entrusted to guard the fortress.
Your act of leaving the board meeting in so far as to uphold your conflict of interest is the most cowardice of defence.
What you have done is actually opening the fortress gate and letting the robbers to help themselves with the money.
Not Smart: When a shoplifter is caught stealing goods, more often than not severe actions are taken, which includes a police report. However, sometimes the shoplifter is warned and told to return the goods.
The land purchase fiasco by Tabung Haji is as such now. Shame on those who supported and approved the transaction. Your names and faces will be well remembered by the hajis, hajjahs, makciks and pakciks.
This news will spread to the Holy Land and now Tabung Haji’s name is tarnished. Shame on you fellas if you still remain in your positions.
Alex Ferguson: I really sympathise with all the good citizens of Malaysia. This circus act just keeps getting bigger and bigger with more and more clowns getting into the act.
No doubt, Martin Scorsese is already planning a sequel to ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ based on the events happening here.
KnockKnock: I salute you, Abdul Azeez. Najib’s call received in the morning and already three ever-ready buyers in hand.
Perhaps you could also help me, Abdul Azeez. I have a property worth RM2.5 million and till now, for two years, I couldn't get a buyer. -Mkini
