DPM HOPING TO TAKE OVER FROM 'EMBARRASSED' NAJIB? ‘Why is Zahid as tame as a mouse?’
KUALA LUMPUR - DAP is questioning the police’s double standards when dealing with red shirt rally front-man Datuk Jamal Md Yunos, who is being treated with “kid gloves” despite continuing to undermine racial harmony.
In contrast, the party’s supremo Lim Kit Siang noted, the men in blue were “Twitter-quick” to take action against Opposition and non-governmental organisation personalities, even for “non-existing offences”.
Lim, in a statement, claimed Jamal threatened racial harmony after warning of a possible riot by the red shirts at Petaling Street – a popular tourist destination – tomorrow.
The Gelang Patah lawmaker said there was no doubt police would have come down hard and fast if it were Opposition politicians or NGO members, yet there had been only “empty talk” by the police when it came to the Sungai Besar Umno leader.
“In fact, if the target had been Opposition or NGO personalities, the Home Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi would have roared into action.

“Why is Zahid as tame as a mouse in this case of blatant and repeated threats to racial peace and social harmony, causing traders in Petaling Street to decide whether to close shop tomorrow?”
Lim added if there was any closure of business in Petaling Street tomorrow, it would be proof of the the police and Home Ministry’s failure to be custodians of peace, law and order in the country.
The authorities’ failure, he said, would be a major issue in Parliament when it reconvenes in less than a month.
On Wednesday, Jamal who heads a coalition of Malay NGOs warned of the possibility of a riot taking place in Petaling Street on Saturday, due to the inaction by the government against traders in Petaling Street selling fake goods.

He has since clarified that he had no intention of organising a riot and stressed he was merely an intermediary to the group that was supposedly intending to rally at the venue.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim was previously reported as saying that he would apprehend and investigate Jamal if evidence indicated that the latter intended to instigate riots in Petaling Street this weekend.
Prior to this, several participants of the red shirt rally on Sept 16 who many felt were racist in nature, attempted to march through Petaling Street despite police having declared that they would bar supporters from the route. - Therakyatpost
