Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he is still clueless about the Himpanan Rakyat Bersatu’s objectives, even as the rally has already gone on for hours today.
Asked to comment on the rally after attending a function in Cyberjaya today, he told reporters, “What is their objective? Even I don’t know.
“How am I supposed to comment?” he said, shortly before being ushered away by the security team at the function.
The former premier had been critical of the rally. Despite the rally organisers saying that the rally is a counter-demonstration against the supposedly racist Bersih 4 rally, and that today’s rally to defend Malays.
“Bersih 4 was not racist, all races were there. They (red shirts) want Bersih to be racist so they can defend the Malays.
“(But) they are not defending the Malays. There is no need (for the rally),” he told reporters yesterday.
As of the time of writing, the rally at Padang Merbok is still ongoing, while clashes had taken place between the police and a group of protesters outside Petaling Street.
The crowd had marched there from several locations at about 1pm today, but had been gathering since morning. - M'kini
