Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said he did not spend any money on his son's wedding in Jakarta, after authorities grilled an Umno blogger for questioning the timing of the ceremony.
Zahid also revealed it was no coincidence that the wedding reception coincided with his official trip to Indonesia, Malaysiakini reported.
He said his son's father-in-law, who footed the wedding bill, planned the reception after learning he would be visiting Indonesia in his official capacity.
"I didn't spend any money for any minister and guests from Malaysia to attend the wedding."
He said his son had already married the Indonesian in Kuala Lumpur, ahead of the ceremony in Jakarta.
"I hope God will punish him when his daughter or son gets married," Zahid reportedly quipped, referring to blogger Shahbudin Husin.
Shahbudin was summoned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over his post questioning if Zahid's official visit was moved forward from its original date to coincide with the wedding reception.
Shahbudin said MCMC officers grilled him on Tuesday and told him he was being investigated under Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998 which makes it an offence to publish indecent, obscene, false, menacing, or offensive materials to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person.
"Why did he not ask me to explain it publicly, I am not abusing public funds," Zahid was quoted as saying today.
