Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz has brushed off Datuk Jamal Mohd Yunos’s claim of a plot to oust party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, saying Jamal was not important and the allegation just a personal opinion.
Nasri said Jamal, who is Sungai Besar Umno chief, was free to voice his opinion, but he would still have to toe the party line.
“It’s his views. He’s not even that important, it’s nothing. This is a free country.
I am not a leader, I am the chief of the Padang Rengas division, I will abide by the meeting’s decision,” said Nazri, who is also the tourism minister.
Malay daily Sinar Harian today reported Jamal confirming that more than 100 Umno division chiefs in the country had attended closed talks to get rid of Muhyiddin and his group.
Jamal, who is known as the leader of the September 16 “red shirt” rally, said Datuk Seri Najib Razak was “too soft and did not have the heart” to make such a move, which led to Muhyiddin becoming more “aggressive” against the Najib administration.
Sinar Harian also reported that one site, “Johor Bangkit”, claimed that 140 division leaders in Umno, including five from Johor, agreed to remove Muhyiddin who enjoyed strong grassroots support from his home state Johor.
The site added that the Umno Supreme Council meeting, which was to be held this Friday, had been postponed to allow them more time to gather support from division leaders to oust Muhyiddin.
