KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s position as Umno deputy president does not mean he should be allowed to openly attack the party’s leadership, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said Wednesday.
The urban wellbeing, housing and local government minister stressed that every Umno member should uphold discipline in the party, which he said was of “paramount” importance and the foundation of its success.
“As far as I’m concerned, everybody (in the party) must toe the line in terms of discipline.
“You can have different views but you have to use your appropriate avenues to explain your position,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
The Kota Belud MP refused, however, to say if the party will take action against Muhyiddin, adding only that Umno was examining “several individuals” for breaching its rules.
Seven Umno leaders who openly criticised the party leadership are currently under investigation and may be suspended over their actions.
“We will see. I think if we look at disciplinary of view, I believe there are some grounds to bring some people and being judged on disciplinary issues,” Rahman Dahlan said.
At a forum in Johor Baru last week, Muhyiddin complained about his treatment in Umno following his removal as deputy prime minister.
He alleged that he was sidelined despite being the second most senior leader in the party and being punished for speaking out for Umno members.
Muhyiddin was dropped from the Cabinet in July following his open criticism of Putrajaya over its handling of the 1 Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue.
