All district engineers have been instructed to monitor slopes in their respective districts as part of precautionary measures during this monsoon (rainy) season, according to Public Works Department (PWD) director-general Ir Adanan Mohamed Hussain.
"The monitoring activity is a normal procedure at year-end as there would be plenty of rain," he told reporters in Cyberjaya.
He said the PWD already had the list of critical slopes, the risk factors for each slope, and the database on slopes along federal roads.
However, he said the PWD would only monitor the slopes on roads without tolls, as the slopes on toll roads and expressways were under the monitoring eyes of the Malaysian Highway Authority.
Earlier, Adanan, on behalf of PWD, signed a memorandum of understanding with Universiti Malaysia Pahang vice-chancellor Daing Mohd Nasir Ibrahim for the development of building information modelling, a technology which would provide integrated database using smart 3D model for the construction industry.
