After Chua's revelations, DAP leader asks BN's PAC members to stay out of RM2.6bn hearings.
KUCHING: Barisan Nasional parties and MPs have been urged to state how much they received in election campaign funding from BN chairman Najib Razak.
The DAP’s Lim Kit Siang also asked Barisan MPs who were members of parliament’s watchdog, the Public Accounts Committee, to withdraw from committee discussions or hearings into a reported deposit of RM2.6 billion in Najib’s personal bank accounts before the 2013 general election.
The money was said to have been a donation from Middle Eastern sources to help the Barisan Nasional’s election campaign.
Former MCA president Chua Soi Lek was reported to have stated this week that Najib had given election campaign funds to Barisan component parties, the first time in five elections that the coalition had helped its partners.
The matter is expected to be discussed by the Public Accounts Committee, which is scheduled to conduct hearings into the government’s investment fund, 1Malaysia Development Bhd. The authorities have denied that the RM2.6 billion was linked to 1MDB.
Lim said today that Barisan partners and MPs should all declare how much each had received, including those who were members of the Public Accounts Committee. He said they should withdraw from any meetings to avoid any conflict-of-interest.
