Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has ordered the arrest of a Facebook user for a seditious posting related to a detonative statutory declaration (SD).
"Track down and arrest the person below for sedition," Khalid tweeted to his officers, with an image of the offensive post.
The Facebook posting by Faisal Rohban states that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor had "no other work other than to kill people".
Faisal cited the deaths of Altantuya Shaaribuu, private investigator P Balasubramaniam, Ambank founder Hussein Ahmad Najadi and senior deputy public prosecutor Kevin Anthony Morais.
He noted how the prime minister and his wife were implicated in these cases, and claimed they were behind former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy conviction as well.
However, Faisal in his previous postings indicated that he is a BN supporter and his account featured cover photos of the prime minister as well.
Asked if the post was meant to be sarcastic, Khalid told Malaysiakini that was beside the point.
The police chief stressed that regardless of who a person supports, he or she must be mindful of what is said on social media as it gives room to various interpretations.
"People must be responsible about what they post publicly. This case is no exception," Khalid added.
In a subsequent posting, Faisal apologised, saying his initial remarks could have been confusing and misconstrued.
"I am sorry if I inconvenienced certain quarters," he said.
Allegation of conspiracy
Faisal's initial post was based on the statutory declaration (SD) by Kevin's brother Charles Suresh Morais, which was disclosed to the media yesterday.
Charles had alleged a conspiracy in the murder, and revealed that he has a pen drive detailing the cases in which his brother had worked on.
He also claimed that Kevin, who was seconded to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), told him that he was involved in cases concerning the prime minister and his wife.
Charles also alleged his brother had penned his initials on a charge sheet purportedly for Najib.
The authorities have described the charge sheet, exposed by whistleblower Sarawak Report, as fake.
MACC is investigating the RM42 million transferred by the Finance Ministry-owned SRC International into Najib's personal accounts.
The prime minister has denied using public funds for personal gain and accused his detractors of conspiring to topple him. -Mkini
