Police obtain further remand period for investigation into death of Form 5 pupil.
GEORGE TOWN: A 20-year-old man is to be remanded for seven more days from Monday as part of police investigations into the rape and murder of a Form Five pupil in Teluk Kumbar village last Sunday.
Police said the man, 20, a security guard, was detained several hours after schoolgirl Intan Suraya Mawardi, 17, was found dead at home.
Police succeeded in getting another seven days’ remand from tomorrow until Nov 8 to complete the investigation papers, a spokesman said.
The girl’s body was found covered with a blanket on her bed in the family home in Teluk Kumbar by her father, who returned home at 7.30pm.
She was believed to have been raped and murdered.
Penang CID chief Zakaria Ahmad was reported to have said that the crime came about out of jealousy.
