Umno, Perkasa members greet Muhyiddin as he returns from holiday

© Provided by The Malaysian Insider Supporters of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin turn up at the airport to greet him. – The Malaysian Insider filepic, November 26, 2015.Some 80 Umno and Perkasa members today greeted former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as he returned from a holiday two days after the Umno Supreme Council went against convention in not having him officiate party wing assemblies during the general assembly next month.

Muhyiddin returned from a holiday in Osaka, Japan today, a day after he vowed that he would not be silenced despite not being given a platform to speak at the assembly.

Among those who greeted him at KLIA were members from Umno Pagoh, for which he is division chief, and Selangor Perkasa members.

Muhyiddin refused to talk to the media upon arriving, saying that he would have a media meet tomorrow instead.

"I will speak tomorrow."

He was greeted with chants of "Hidup Tan Sri" by supporters who wore "Keranamu Malaysia" t-shirts and also some in Wanita Umno uniforms.

The Umno Supreme Council decided that respective wing chiefs would officiate the Youth, Puteri and Wanita assemblies, breaking convention of having the deputy president officiating those meets.

Muhyiddin, who was removed from the Cabinet in July following his criticism of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's brainchild 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), has continued his criticism of the firm while choosing to remain in Umno.

There have been rumours that he would be sacked from the party due to his criticism, but no such decision has been made by Umno on that matter so far.

Umno on Tuesday sacked former Wanita Umno information chief Datuk Hamidah Osman due to her criticism of 1MDB and Najib.

1MDB has racked up a RM42 billion debt and is currently being investigated by the Auditor-General and the Public Accounts Committee.
