The first thing on political cartoonist Zunar's mind after he was released today was: 'What cartoon am I going to draw tonight?'
"This incident is too cartoonish that I do not know where to start to draw (about it), but I will definitely do a series to explain the whole situation," Zunar told Malaysiakini.
His lawyer RSN Rayer said Zunar was released at 6.30pm and posted police bail.
Zunar, whose real name is Zulkifee Anwar Ulhaque, has to report back to the police on Dec 27.
Zunar's 'Wasabi' book launch has been cancelled.
He will return to Kuala Lumpur tonight.
Zunar was in lock-up at the Northeast Police Headquarters on Jalan Pattani since Saturday, 6pm, for probe under the Sedition Act, for allegedly insulting Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
He was also detained under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentionally trying to breach the peace.
Police sought four day remand, but was only granted one day.
The 2015 Cartoonist for Peace winner was nabbed by police a day after his exhibition in Komtar was thrashed on Friday by Penang Umno members led by state youth chief Rafizal Abdul Rahim.
They allegedly threw punches at Zunar and pulled his collar, but the cartoonist managed to avoid the physical assault.
He failed stop two of his artworks from being damaged by the rowdy crowd.
Police seized about 10 of his artworks last night from Komtar.- Mkini
