Annuar confirms running for FAM post, to lock horns with crown prince

Umno information chief Annuar Musa has confirmed that he would contest for the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president post.
In a Facebook posting, Annuar said he has submitted a letter accepting his nomination to FAM secretary-general Hamidin Mohd Amin.
"Alhamdulillah. Submitted the form to accept the nomination for the FAM presidency, first candidate in the sporting spirit,” he wrote.
The posting was made an hour after the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page announced that Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has obtained the consent of his father and state ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar to contest for the FAM top post.
Last week, Annuar was suspended as Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairperson following claims of corruption and abuse of power.
The Ketereh MP is currently being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over allegations that Mara Investment and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) sponsored the Kelantan football team, which Annuar is linked to.
On Jan 12, Tunku Ismail accused Annuar of using his positions in Mara and UniKL to secure sponsorship for the Kelantan football team.
Tunku Ismail also revealed several documents detailing the said transactions and questioned if the sponsorship was the reason why UniKL was forced to reduce scholarships for its students by RM700 million last year.

Annuar, who is also former Kelantan Football Association (Kafa) president, denied the allegations.
Meanwhile, the Umno leader's announcement on his decision to contest earned him both bouquets and brickbats on Facebook.
FAM is slated to hold its election next month.
Tunku Ismail was nominated as FAM president during the last election in 2014. During that contest, Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah won after garnering 27 votes to Tunku Ismail's 12 votes.- Mkini
