Federal Territories Minister says programme is initiated by an NGO to help ease the financial burden of the people.
KUALA LUMPUR: The funding for free petrol for motorcyclists in parliamentary constituencies in the Federal Territories is fully borne by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and not the government.
“The programme is not funded by the ministry and has nothing to do with government funds,” he told reporters after opening the 2017 Wilayah International Motofest here yesterday.
Bernama had earlier reported that the Federal Territory Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth wing would be giving free petrol to motorcyclists in every parliamentary constituency in Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya every month beginning April.
The programme received negative feedback as it was said to be in conflict with Tengku Adnan’s earlier proposal to ban low-powered or ‘kapcai’ motorcycles from the city centre.
Tengku Adnan said the ministry would however keep introducing new initiatives to reduce the people’s burden and cost of living.
“For example, this year we launched the bus programme for children living at the People’s Housing Projects (PPR) and we are also working on providing shuttle services from the PPR to LRT (Light Rail Transit) stations,” he said. -FMT
