Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today claimed that it is not just the Malays who have been sidelined under the current Penang state administration.
"It is not just the Malays who have been sidelined. All races have been sidelined in Penang.
"He just picked (on) Malays. I said all," Tengku Adnan told reporters when met at his ministry's Chinese New Year open house celebration at Dataran Dewan Bandaraya in Kuala Lumpur.
The Putrajaya MP said this when asked for comments on a police report lodged against him earlier today by DAP's Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng over his reported remarks that the Penang state-government "does not care about the Malays".
Lim had lodged the report based on Tengku Adnan's remarks as quoted by national news agency Bernama on Saturday saying "We know what is happening in Penang. They (the state government) does not care about the Malays".
Tengku Adnan had said this in response to uproar over his proposal to include Penang, as well as Langkawi and parts of Malacca under the Federal Territories.
Pressed further, Tengku Adnan repeated his claims that the Penang government had allowed house prices to soar - among other alleged failures - and had not made any efforts to address the issue.
"In the Federal Territories we can ensure that prices of homes are affordable. We ensure that we want to reduce the living costs of people...," he had said.
Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh had this morning also urged Tengku Adnan to explain his claims to the police, aside from calling for an investigation over whether the remarks can be construed as seditious.
In response, Tengku Adnan said he would cooperate with police investigations on the matter.
"I have been called by the police.
"I will have my statement recorded. No problem," said Tengku Adnan who however clarified that it was only his "personal wish" to include Penang as a part of the Federal Territories.
"I said, 'my wish'. I didn't say I want to take Penang. Please read my statement properly.
"The problem with this opposition, they never read my statement properly," he added.
