KUALA LUMPUR: A former president of a municipal council in Negeri Sembilan has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for suspected corruption and power abuse.
Also detained were three contractors who were believed to have been awarded several projects by the former council president.
According to a source, the suspect, aged 63 and with the “Datuk” title, was arrested at his residence in Seremban at 11.30 am today.
“The suspect is believed to have committed the offences when he was district officer and then municipal council president between September 2009 and August last year,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
MACC director of investigations Simi Abd Ghani, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and that the commission was identifying several other people to facilitate investigations. -FMT
