MCA rues opposition breaking of politicking truce during CNY

Cultural and religious festivals should be a time free from politicking, but unfortunately this truce had been broken by the opposition, MCA claimed.

"There should be a truce in all politicking especially during cultural or religious festivals as such occasions are meant to greet blessings of joy, good health and fortune, and definitely to be devoid of pessimism.

"But Pakatan Harapan, unfortunately, fails to realise, much less observe this goodwill," the MCA publicity department said in a statement today.

They were commenting on viral allegations that a lion dance troupe refused to dance for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor at Gerakan’s Chinese New Year open house at the party’s national headquarters on Jan 28.

However, it had since been revealed that the lion dance performers were instead peeling citrus fruits, which explained why it appeared to be motionless from certain angles.

The MCA publicity department claimed Harapan had exploited and twisted the issue.

The Malaysia Gao Feng Lion and Dragon Dance Athletic Association which performed the lion dance decried the accusations made against them on social media.

It said the group was apolitical, and such accusations could tarnish its reputation.- Mkini
